I did not attend a session at SwTx Pop Culture that I wish now I had gone to.
This one:
Philosophy and Religion in the Whedonverse
Subtracting the Subject: Alain Badiou and Joss Whedon Against the
Cosmopolitans
Katie Kohn, The European Graduate School“Not Very Christian of Meâ€: The Escapist Faith of a Lost Shepherd in Joss Whedon’s Firefly
Ian Klein, Independent Scholar
KJ Swanson, Mars Hill Graduate SchoolThe New Dale in Sunnydale: A Critique of Dale Koontz’s Faith and Choice in the Works of Joss Whedon
Doug Rabb and Mike Richardson, Lakehead University
But even though I did not attend (and I should have), I am getting to read Ian and KJ’s paper, because KJ sent it to me. Yeah for her!!!
I am finding it very intriguing. In fact, I’m almost having a dialogue with it as I read. I keep thinking, ah, I might go here with this. Where are they going?
I love this quote.
The fact that Book clearly had a conversion experience is far more significant than the details of his “unsaved” past (9).
I am still reading. But it is interesting and challenging stuff.
I’m so thrilled that what we wrote is springing up ideas for you. Dialogue (interior or exterior) was definitely our hope!
Katie Kohn’s paper on Alain Badiou was also stunning. I’m trying to track down a copy of her paper for myself.
Well, I hope when you find it, you send me a copy too.
Thanks for the shout-out. So looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
