I have begun to envision including more varied kinds of information to help students who learn through other learning styles. This includes art, music, film clips, and discussion groups. The art, music, and film clips are fairly straightforward.
In our readings we are covering various themes in the works: life, death, love…
So “Everyman†by Casting Crowns, Bob Dylan’s “It’s Alright, Ma,†and Jackson Browne’s “For Everyman†are good songs to talk about the fact that all of us have to face death and it is usually unexpected. Other possibilities are for video clips on this topic; I can look at Forrest Gump and Bucket List.
Art is a little more problematic, but there are plenty of famous paintings dealing with death. A good one for this might be Albrecht Durer’s “The Knight, Death, and the Devil”. Discussions could be over people folks know who have died (yuck) or how they think they would react if they thought they were going to die. A song for this time might be “Live Like You Were Dying†by Tim McGraw.
