One of my papers was accepted for presentation at the American Literature Association in May in Boston. (That is great on two levels. One, ALA is a major conference and, two, I’ve never been to Boston before.)
My title is:
“Case Studies of Insanity in 19th Century American Literature: The Clinical Accuracy of Gilman’s Account of Deteriorating Mental Health”
It will have three sections:
Bibliography of historical issues, place it in time and historical context
Relationship to other stories in Am lit (Poe’s “Tell-Tale Heart” and Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brown”)
Textual analysis of how it is accurate in a modern sense
I am really looking forward to this. It comes out of a teaching unit I do in freshman literature.
