Rebecca Balcárcel, author of Palabras in Each Fist, was on my campus last Thursday doing a poetry workshop. I enjoyed it immensely and learned a lot.
She left us with a final exercise to do at home.
Describe an object in your closet (garage, storage unit, attic, basement).
Use personification (make this object behave as a human; have it take action or talk to you).
End with advice that the object gives you.
